But, What Should I Eat?
This is by far the question we get asked most when it comes to nutrition.
It’s the most confusing question because one day a food is “healthy” and the next day it’s not. It almost feels impossible to know what is best.
· Are potatoes good or bad?
· What about eggs?
· Can I eat pasta?
· Is cheese okay?
· Do I have to live without bacon?
· What about creamer in my coffee? I can’t live without it!
Sound familiar?
To make it worse, most foods don’t exist in just one macronutrient category. For instance, salmon would fall into the protein category but also is rich is healthy fats.
Try not to think of foods as “good” or “bad”. Instead, we like to think of foods on a spectrum from “eat more” to “eat some” to “eat less”. For some, the Green Light, Yellow Light, Red Light analogy works well. Green light foods are nutritious and make you feel good. Eat these whenever you want. Yellow Foods aren’t the worst choices but eating too many of them might leave you with regrets. Red foods are no-go’s. These are the ones you tend to overeat, make you sick, or they don’t help you reach your goals.
Progress not perfection.
Everyone is different and has different needs and tastebuds. Notice that there are no hard stop rules here. Our goal is to teach you the art and science of food so you can make choices that feel good to you.
